The Centre for Molecular Biology, Central University of Jammu organized a one day workshop on 10.02.2021 in collaboration with J&K Science, Technology and Innovation Council, Thanda Padder Udhampur. The theme of the workshop was "Women empowerment through Science and Technology". Honorable Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ashok Aima focused on the application of scientific research for the development of the society and practical steps needed to improve women’s access to productive technologies. Prof. Mushtaq Ahmed, Director Centre for Molecular Biology and The Convener of the event highlighted the objective of organizing this workshop asserting on the need and significance of the empowering women for the growth of nation.
He discussed how women have excelled in diverse professions and specialized fields in the domain of science and technology. The keynote lecture was given by Dr. Asha Chaubey, Principal Scientist and Head, Fermentation Technology Division & Microbial Biotechnology Division, CSIR-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine, Jammu who apprised the participants of the efforts done at global level for developing confidence amongst women in their capacities. She also discussed various science and technology schemes existing at national level to ensure the growth of women as researchers.
Technical lecture was given by the eminent speaker Dr. Vinod Gupta, Senior Scientist and Head, Krishi Vigyan Kendra Samba. He delivered a talk on the concept of hydroponics to produce high quality, nutritious, pesticide-free economically potential food crops. He enlightened the participants about the ideas to create promotional avenues/opportunities for leadership and economic growth. He also gave a practical demonstration of the same. Dr. Praveen Mehta, Assistant Professor, Centre for Molecular Biology presented the formal vote of thanks. Ms. Shruti Khanna, Assistant Director/Incharge Udhampur District Coordinator JKSTIC, DST was the Program Coordinator.

Dr. Shelly Sehgal, Assistant Professor, Centre for Molecular Biology was the Organizing Secretary and conducted the program proceedings. The event was well attended by Faculty, Students, scholars from the universities and colleges of Jammu and Udhampur.
